TNF

My TNF results for PTSD rs 1800629 GG (70%) – increased severity of PTSD symptoms. May help fish oil and Green Tea.

The TNF gene codes for tumor necrosis factor (TNF). TNF is an immune messenger (cytokine) primarily released by immune cells.

When dysregulated, it may contribute to the development of many conditions. These include:

  • Autoimmune diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis [RRR]
  • Cardiovascular conditions, such as heart failure and stroke [RRR]
  • Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease [RR]
  • Mental health conditions, such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder [RRR]
  • Skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema [RR]
  • Cancer [RR]
  • Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes [RR]
  • Gut conditions, such as IBS and IBD [RRR]

The TNF gene codes for TNF-alpha, a crucial inflammatory protein. Studies suggest an important role of inflammation in chronic fatigue syndrome and other conditions with low energy levels [RRR].

TNF-alpha is the best-studied inflammation marker in chronic fatigue syndrome, and it’s usually elevated in people with this condition [R].

rs1800629 [RR]: My genotype as per self decode (GG)

  • ‘A’ – associated with fatigue and malaise
  • ‘G’ – not associated with fatigue or malaise
  • The ‘A’ allele may increase TNF-alpha levels
