The IL1B gene codes for interleukin 1-beta (IL-1b). IL-1b is an important inflammatory immune messenger (cytokine). It’s released from white blood cells in response to cell stress, cell damage, or cell death, and can have an impact on metabolism and weight control. Variants of IL1B may play a role in chronic fatigue syndrome by changing energy production in the short and long term. They may also play a role in PTSD by stimulating the excess release of IL-1b. [R, R, R, R].
After its release, IL-1b acts as an “alarm bell,” signaling the release of many other pro-inflammatory compounds [R, R, R, R].
For some ILB variants associated with chronic fatigue syndrome it may help to increase iron, take the supplement NAC and move more, but within your energy envelope so you do not trigger Post Exertion Malaise (PEM).
In multiple studies, both oral and infused NAC given before exercise reduced post-exercise muscle fatigue, oxidative stress, and inflammation [R, R, R, R, R, R, R, R, R].
For PTSD Fish oil (omega-3) may reduce severity of PTSD symptoms by lowering blood levels of IL-1b.
CBD oil may improve symptoms of PTSD by suppressing the production and activity of IL-1b. (an alternative to CBD oil recommended by one of my doctors was low dose naltrexone.
